To start off the second half of the season, the Panthers took the long trip to Colby to take on the Trojans in their first Jayhawk Conference matchup of 2017. The Panthers struggled on the road in the first half of the season, just earning one road win overall and no conference road wins. The Panthers looked to change this as they took on the Trojans. The game started off sloppy with several turnovers and missed layups, which could be expected by both sides as it's the first game back after the holiday break. The Panthers were able to take an early advantage when freshman
Beth Hawkins came off the bench and hit her first three, three point attempts. This would help push the Panthers to a first quarter lead of 22 to 10. The Trojans would not lay down and give the game away as they battled back with three point shooting of their own. Despite their hot second quarter three point shooting the Trojans still found themselves down 28-24 at the half. The third quarter, in the first half of the season, is typically a time when the Panthers come out a struggle. This game would prove a little different, as the Panthers didn't struggle offensively the hot shooting of the Trojans just carried over into the second half. The Trojans would hit several three pointers putting up 23 points in the third to the Panthers 18. This would give the Colby Trojans a one point advantage headed into the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter would be a back and forth affair as no team could really take hold and runaway with the game. With about six minutes left in regulation the Panthers were able to take a small lead that would eventually end up in a seven point victory, 65-58.
