After jumping out to a 2-0 start in the second half of the season, the Panthers 3
rd quarter struggles continue to haunt them moving forward. After Picking up the win against Garden City they traveled to Butler and found themselves down only 6 at the half. Coming out of the half, the Panthers gave up 23 points to the Grizzlies while only scoring 6 of their own. This deficit would prove to be too much for the Panthers to overcome as they fell 79-47.
Beth Hawkins scored 16 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the 3 point line.
The Panthers next match up against Barton was scheduled for Saturday January 14
th, but with the impending ice storm scheduled to hit over the weekend the match up was pushed to Monday the 16
th at 2pm. The 3
rd quarter would be a little different in this match up as the Panthers would come out and score 20 points in the 3
rd. This is one of their best 3
rd quarters all season but, the Panthers would allow the Cougars to score 27 points in that same quarter. Unable to cut any further into the Cougars margin, the Panthers would fall 78 to 52.
Brooke Neal and
Jhanai Felix would both tally 10 points for the Panthers in the loss.
This brings us to last night's match up with the Tigers of Cowley. Both teams would struggle to score in the first 2 to 3 minutes. Then the Tigers brought on full court pressure that would force 10 turnovers resulting in 15 points and a 24 to 6 first quarter Tiger advantage. The Panthers would not go away as they would go on a 28 to 12 run in the 2
nd quarter thanks to some much needed 3 point baskets from
Kelsie Kerns and
Amy Zepeda. It was this sharpshooting that would help the Panthers cut their halftime deficit to just 2. Once again it was the 3
rd quarter woes coming back to haunt the Panthers as they would turn the ball over 5 times in a row at one point resulting in 18 points off of turnovers in the 3
rd quarter alone. The Panthers would allow 40 points in the 3
rd, giving the Tigers a 76-43 advantage going into the 4
th quarter. This would be too much of a hole for the Panthers to dig themselves out of as they fell to the Tigers 85-64. Three Panthers would score in double figures
Ki'Asha Harris had 14 points and 5 rebounds,
Jhanai Felix and
Bianca Valderrama both added 13 points in a losing effort.
The Panthers are back at home on Saturday as they host Allen. Tip time for that game is scheduled at 2pm.Â
