PARK CITY – The Neosho County Panthers defense was the key to its victory in the Region VI championship game Thursday night at Hartman Arena. The Panthers held the blue Dragons to a season low 58 points.

The #16 Panthers used a 22-1 run in the first half to blow past the #7 Blue Dragons. After the Panthers finally took the lead they never looked back and took a 32-24 lead into half.

In the second half the Blue Dragons made a few runs but the Panther defense never let up forcing Hutch into 14 turnovers. With a minute to play Hutch hit a jumper to pull within 2 points (60-58). The Panthers then called a timeout to draw up a play for big man Richard Granberry who hit an 8 foot baseline jumper just before the shot clock went off to make it a 4 point game. Neosho County would finish off the Blue Dragons by getting stops and knocking down free-throws.

The 66-58 win snapped the Blue Dragons 13-game winning streak and earned the Panther program its first ever bid to the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Panther Freddie McSwain finished the game with 17 points, Tucker Thompson finished with 10 points, Granberry and Jackson ended with 9 points and Moon finished with 7 points.

The Panthers now wait to find out who they will face in the first round of the NJCAA National Tournament. Seedings will be announced Monday, March 7th at 3:33pm.
