Overland Park- To prepare for an always difficult Jayhawk Conference schedule, the Panther coaching staff scheduled the number five team in NJCAA Division 2 Johnson County to open up the season on Tuesday. The game was a low scoring defensive battle with both teams shooting in the mid to up 20's from the field. Strong defensive stands and playing with pace on the offensive end kept the Panthers within four points at the half. It was the third quarter that Johnson gained ground on the Panthers. The Cavs come out and scored 16 points in the quarter while the Panthers went on a scoring drought that lasted almost 6 minutes. Despite the poor third quarter the Panthers still found themselves just behind seven points to start the fourth. The Cavs pulled away in the fourth in a stretch where they forced back to back turnovers that resulted in back to back 3's and a three point play by sophomore forward Austin Richardson. The Panthers were unable to recover and fell 48-32. Sophomore guard Brook Neal scored 9 points and sophomore forward
Ki'Asha Harris added 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Panthers are back in action on Friday as they host Wentworth Military College for their home opener. The tip time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. here in Chanute.
