On Saturday afternoon the Panthers took on Barton County, in yet another exciting Jayhawk Conference match up. The Cougars started off the game by connecting on three straight three pointers causing the Panthers to take a timeout to cool the hot shooting of Kilee Harris. The Panther came out of the time out on a run of their own lead by
Ashlynd Horton who hit three, threes of her own. Barton was still able to hang on to a five point lead 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was more of the same as both teams battled back and forth to try and take control of the game. The Panthers were able to win the second quarter but were still short on the scoreboard at the half 33 to 31. In the third quarter, the Panthers shooting struggles returned, shooting 17% from the floor. Despite the low shooting percentage, the Panthers were able to remain within six points at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was more of the same for the Panthers as they struggled to score, shooting just 19 % from the floor and 12% from three. This would be the downfall of the Panthers, as they fall to the Cougars by a final score of 60-47. Panthers,
Kascity Martin, led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points, followed by
Ashlynd Horton who had 11 points and Freshman
Jhanai Felix added 10 points. The Panthers have a chance to rebound on Wednesday against Pratt Community College here in Chanute. Tip for that game will be 5:30pm.
