The Neosho Volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a 3-1 record at the Fort Scott Invitational with wins against Wentworth Military Academy, East Central College and Labette Community College.
On Friday, the Panthers faced Brookhaven and East Central. Neosho dropped their first match to Brookhaven in four sets (19-25, 25-16, 21-25, 17-25). Despite the loss, freshman middle
Riley McGinn had a standout performance with 10 kills, 1 error and 6 blocks. Next the Panthers would take a 3-0 victory over East Central (25-17, 25-15, 25-17). Leading the way for the Panthers were
Mackenzie Brown and
Mandi Taylor both with 7 kills and only 3 errors. Freshman Libero
Taryn Strobel also contributed to the victory with 21 digs.
On Saturday, the Panthers went 2-0 versus Wentworth Military Academy and Labette Community College., Neosho lost the first set 22-25 against Wentworth before taking three of the last final four sets to get the 3-2 victory (22-25, 25-21, 25-12, 21-25, 15-9). Again Taylor, led the Panthers in Kills with 11, while
Mackenzie Brown,
Jill Starling and
Kaelyn Yeoman all racked up 10 Kills. Freshman Setter
Haley Slade led the way with 39 of the team's 46 assists. To finish up the Panthers took on fellow Jayhawk Conference team Labette Community College. The Panthers won in straight sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-18). Slade again led the way with 35 assists.
Jill Starling had a team high 15 kills followed by
Rianne Richard with eight.
