After blowing out Fort Scott Community College (23-25 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East, 12-20 overall) in game three to go up 3-0 in the four-game season series, the Neosho County Community College baseball team (20-12, 35-13) held off the Greyhounds 10-8 in game two to complete the series sweep.
A six-run seventh inning narrowed the Panther's margin to 9-8 after 7.5 innings played, but the Panthers held Fort Scott scoreless in the final two at bats while adding a run in the bottom of the eighth.
Shane Hummel came in to close out the ball game in the top of the eighth. He threw two innings, allowing no hits and no errors while striking out one.Â
Neosho started the game hot, scoring two in the bottom of the first, three in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the third. The Panthers scored again in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The insurance run in the bottom of the eighth came from a Skip Skalnik RBI single that scored
Jonah Bride.
In game two,
Tyler Sutherland was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, three runs scored and home run, his second of the day.
Chad Thomas was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Bride went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.
Game one was all Neosho, ending 11-1 after five innings due to the run rule.
Matt Slauter pitched a complete game. He went five innings and allowed six hits, a run and struck out three.Â
Sutherland drove his first homerun of the day, finishing game one 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Blake Tomasino also went yard in game one, batting 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Bride was 3-for-3 with a RBi and a run scored.
Levi Ashmore was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Neosho is 9-1 in the past 10 games and sits three games ahead of Coffeyville for the No. 3 position in the Jayhawk East standings. The Panthers close conference play with a four game series with Independence Community College. The first double header of the season series begins Thursday in Independence at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Neosho returns home Saturday to finish the conference season at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. against the Pirates at Hudson Field.
Neosho finishes the season with two non conference double headers. The Panthers host Brown Mackie Sunday and Rockhurst Tuesday.Â
