Panthers Drop Overtime Heartbreaker to Pratt

Men's Soccer Lose 2-1 to Pratt

First Half
This is what many people expected to be the conference game of the week. The (10-2) Pratt Beavers who were also the conference leaders, took on the (6-8-1) Panthers who were at a 3-0 hot streak. This game had Conference title hopes, and home field advantage dreams throughout the playoffs. Just within the first half, Pratt was taking the offensive, but the resilient panthers fought through with sophomore go-getter Ozzy Olmos, who did everything in his power to keep the game within reach. The first half was littered with action and penalty cards from both squads. As the 14th minute mark approached, Pratt's 13 Alexander Morgan was entitled with a yellowcard. He was replaced by the by the beavers 5 Juan Negrete at the 14 minute mark. After that it was a chess match ordeal placing the ball back and forth until Serratos Ismael from Neosho's squad fell victim to a yellow card and was forced to sit out for the time period. What really struck the panther pride was Sam Gavin, and Jack Lambert both supposedly sitting out for such a high profile conference match. These two star players deeply cut into the panther offense by not scoring. To add pain on the Panther pride was a goal by # 4 Jordan Stubbings for Pratt at the 26:05 mark. This marked the 11th goal for the beaver for the season, and after this goal he was tied for the league lead in overall goals. What seemed to be a start for the panthers, ended in a yellow card for the Neosho Faithful for #3 Jaime Soto, he was replaced by Jack MacLauchlan who fought valiantly in his place. To bring back the panthers in not goals, but hype was freshman Matthaeus Bendocchi shot that nearly missed a goal at the 35:04 mark by merely inches. Within back and forth engagements on the pitch, seemingly out of nowhere number #3 Jaime Soto gave his all to save a goal at the 38:16 mark. To end this back and forth frenzy Peter Connelly from Pratt placed a kick that was nearly inches from the panther's goal, luckily the Panthers were able to stop the resilient attempt.

2nd Half

Started out as a cautious match with both sides wanting to keep their key players, and it ended it as that way. Right at the 57:41 mark Jordan Stubbing's from Pratt missed his shot to take the lead for the match. In a frenzy, forward Ibra Villodas took it upon himself to score without an assist, of a deflected goalie block from a corner kick to be the local hero, and give life to the Panthers. Coming out of what seemed to be a greatly significant ankle injury, freshmen forward from Yorkshire England, Jack Lambert made his appearance at the 64th minute mark, and fought to keep his fellow panthers alive. With both sides fighting back and forth with a 1-1 score tie, Serratos Ishmael was forced to take a seat by panther's Rafael Simmons following a yellow card at the 27:37 mark. Following that, this fast paced speed game also took a seat on the sidelines as both teams seemed to fail to move the ball across the opposing teams half of the field. This was the deal until the last 20 seconds of regulation when Pratt managed to break free and take it down the Panthers side of the field. Though seasoned player Ozzy Olmos was able to place himself at the right moment but also had to sacrifice a personal yellow card on himself to stop what seemed to be a wide open shot from Peter Connelly at the 42:20 minute mark. This however kept the game from finishing before the regulation time period and forced it into a "golden goal" opportunity for both teams in overtime.

OVERTIME
This heated contest would have to be settled in the extra time of overtime to determine the winner, and that's exactly what happened. With what seemed to be a controversially foul in the Panther's Goalie box, the Beavers were allowed to take a Penalty kick that had both sides standing on their toes of this back and forth contest. To finish the game, number 3 from Pratt, Declan Fitzpatrick scored the winning goal from the penalty kick at the 91st minute, this would bring him to 7 goals for the season. The final score of the game would have the fighting Beavers ((11-2)(7-1)) topping the Panthers((6-9-1)(3-5)) in an highly anticipated conference game, and that is exactly what was brought to the pitch as both teams fought to stay active in the conference title standings.
