Two Earn All-Tournament Honors at Fort Scott Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 FORT SCOTT, Kan. – Peyton Peavey and Brea May were each named to the Fort Scott Invitational All-Tournament Team as the Panthers opened the 2014 season with a 3-1 record. The Panthers dropped the season opener to Pratt Community College 3-2 but bounced back to win their next three matches over East Central Community College, Wentworth Military Academy, and Labette Community College.
 
Coming off one of the most successful season's in school history the Panthers opened the 2014 season with a hard fought loss to Jayhawk West foe Pratt Community College. The teams traded sets with the Beavers taking the first and third sets 25-19 and 25-19 while the Panthers claiming sets two and four 25-17 and 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set. In the fifth Neosho struggled offensively hitting just .056 in the deciding set dropping the set 15-9.
 
Annelle Anderson led the Panthers offensive attack tallying a career high nine kills on 20 attempts for a .350 percentage. Brea May also notched her first career double-double in the loss as she dished out a career best 41 assists along with 11 digs.
 
The Panthers would bounce back in the second match of the day to knock off East Central Community Colleg 26-24, 25-14, and 25-23. Anderson once again led the offense with eight kills. Jill Starling also finished with eight kills to go with four solo blocks.
 
Saturday morning the Panthers would get off to a hot start and cruised to a straight sets victory of Wentworth Military Academy 25-8, 25-14, and 25-22. Peyton Peavey was dominant on offense in the match tallying nine kills on 17 attempts and added a pair of service aces. The dominance in the match allowed Asya Herron to get some experience for a young squad as 12 different Panthers saw action.
 
The weekend would come to a close with yet another straight sets victory, this time over Jayhawk East rival Labette. The Panthers would dispatch the Cardinals 25-20, 25-23, and 25-19 in a non-conference matchup. Jill Starling narrowly missed her first career double-double, finishing with a game high 11 kills and 9 digs. Brea May notched her second double-double of the weekend with 30 assists and 10 digs. Peyton Peavey had another solid match, finishing with seven kills to go with a season high 5.0 blocks.
 
Peavey and May would be honored for their outstanding play over the weekend by being named to the All-Tournament team. For the weekend Peavey racked up 28 kills on 72 attempts while hitting .264. She also added five service aces, 8 digs, and 8.0 blocks. May recorded a pair of double-doubles while tallying 111 assists, 4 aces, and 30 digs.
 
The Panthers will open up Jayhawk Conference play Wednesday evening when the host No. 12 Kansas City Kansas Community College in a crucial early season match. The Panthers were picked fourth in the preseason coaches' poll while the Blue Devils were chosen third.
