Box Score 2 On a day where temperatures soard about 80 degree's, the Panthers took to beautiful Hudson Field to host Seward in a best of three series in the KJCCC Super Regional. After losing a heartbreaker in extra inning 9-8 in the first game, Neosho used late inning heroics to win the second game 5-4, and force a decisive game three Sunday at 1:00 P.M.
The first game Saw Neosho take the lead 2-1 after one complete inning thanks to a 2 run homer by
Connor Goedert. Seward would take the lead 3-2 until the fourth inning when freshman
Tyler Sutherland connected on a 2-RBI double to give the Panthers the lead 4-3. Back to back homers by
Spencer Ibarra and
Andy Young in the bottom of the sixth would extend the lead to 7-4. From there the Saints chased starter
Jake Johnson by putting up 3 runs and tying the game at 7. Neosho would take the lead again in the bottom of the eighth, but Seward countered with 1 in the ninth and 1 in the tenth to hold on for the 9-8 victory.
Cody Hutchinson took the loss on the mound for the Panthers.
Game 2 started off quickly as Neosho and Seward both scored 2 runs in the first inning. The Saints would take a 4-2 lead after tacking on one in the fourth and one in the fifth. The score would stay 4-2 until
Connor Goedert blasted his second homer of the day, a solo shot to cut the lead to 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth with the season hanging in the balance,
Colton Crocker led off the inning with a single. After a sacrifice bunt from
Spencer Ibarra, an
Andy Young double scored Crocker to tie the game 4-4. After an intentional walk to
Connor Goedert,
Dylan Christie stepped up with runners on first and second in a 4-4 game. The Sophomore smashed a 2 out single to score Young, and extend the Panthers season.
Nathan Whitcomb got the win throwing 2 scoreless innings in relief. Christie finished 2-5 but drove in 3 huge runs.
Neosho takes the field again on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. in a win or go home situation. Freshman
Casey Quinlan takes the mound for the Panthers.
