The Neosho Panthers stumbled some in the final two weeks of the regular season finishing just 2-8 over their last 10 games. Saturday the slate will be wiped clean for the Panthers as they get to set to host Seward County in the opening round of the Central District Tournament.
Despite the Panthers struggles over the past couple weeks, they got some help from their rivals, the Allen Community College Red Devils. After dropping three of four games to Fort Scott in the final weekend of conference play the Panthers had fallen out of the top four spots needed to host a home playoff game. The Panthers needed Allen to take just one game from Kansas City Kansas Community College to help them move back ahead of KCK. Allen took game three of the series 5-0 securing the Panthers the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Division standings.
The Saints have struggled down the stretch as well, ending the season just 4-6 over their last 10. The Saints fell out of the top four in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division standings after dropping three of four games to Butler Community College in their final weekend series. The Saints will no hit the road for the opening round of the playoffs for the first time since 2009 when they swept Allen Community College.
The schedule for the opening round of the Central District Tournament will be two games on Saturday (May 3) beginning at 1:00 pm with a third game if necessary scheduled for Sunday (May 4) at 1:00pm.
