Box Score 2 On a windy Tuesday afternoon in Baldwin City, the Neosho County baseball team added two more wins to their resume. The #7 Panthers improved their record to 33-9 on the year with a sweep of Baker, 10-0 and 10-1.
Neosho used two big innings to win the first game, scoring 2 in the third and 8 in the fourth to win the run rule shortened contest.
Jake Johnson improved his record to 5-4 on the year, throwing a complete game shutout, scattering 4 hits and walking only one Baker batter. Offensively,
Connor Goedert and
Andy Young both had big days. Goedert went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI's, and Young was 2-2 with a triple and 3 RBI's.
The second game saw the Panthers jump out to a 4-1 lead after four complete innings. From that point on, Neosho tacked on 1 on the fifth, 3 in the sixth, and 2 in the 7th to extend the lead to 10-1.
Nathan Whitcomb moved his record to 6-0 on the year throwing 6 innings, giving up 1 run and allowing 3 hits while striking out 6.
Josh Willis threw a scoreless 7th to ensure the victory. Offensively,
Jake Golden had a big 3-run homer, and
Andy Young added 2 more RBI's.
The Panthers take to the field in conference action again on Thursday, traveling to Iola to face off against the Allen County Red Devils. The games being at 3:00 P.M.
