Box Score 2 Neosho County had another very important doubleheader on Saturday, as they played host to the Cowley County Tigers at Hudson Field. The Panthers had to settle for a split however, winning the first game 4-3 and losing the second game 13-4 in front of a big crowd for Diabetes Awareness Day.
Neosho jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first two innings of the first game, behind a 2 run homer from Sophomore
Andy Young. From there the Panthers would hold on, as Cowley cut into the lead scoring 1 in the third, 1 in the fifth, and 1 in the sixth to close the score to 4-3. Sophomore reliever
Cody Hutchinson slammed the door in the top of the seventh to ensure the Neosho victory.
Casey Quinlan picked up the win on the mound, giving up 2 earned runs in 4 innings of work. Hutchinson was credited with the save after throwing 3 innings in relief. The Panther offense was led by
Spencer Ibarra who went 2-3 with and RBI and
Andy Young who finished 2-3 with 2 RBI's.
Game 2 saw Neosho again jump out to a 3-0 lead after two innings highlighted by successful double squeeze bunt by
Dylan Christie. From that point on it was all Tigers, as Cowley scored 3 in the third, 4 in the fifth, 6 in the sixth, and 1 in the seventh to invoke the 14-3 run rule.
Shane Hummel suffered his first loss of the season, dropping his record to 7-1 on the year.
Dylan Christie went 2-3 in the losing effort, driving in 2 RBI's.
The Panthers take it on the road on Tuesday, heading to Baldwin City to play Baker University in a doubleheader. The games begin at 1:00 P.M.
