Panthers Split Final Conference Double

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 As it has been for the last couple weeks for Neosho, Saturday's doublehheader told two completely different stories.  The Panthers split their final conference doubleheader, losing the first game 3-0 and bouncing back to win the second game 12-0.
Fort Scott jumoed out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the first game thanks to 2 Neosho errors. The Greyhounds would add 2 more in the third after three consecutive hits.  That was all Fort Scott starter Cody Tolber would need, as he blanked the Panthers for the game.  Casey Quinlan took the loss for Neosho, giving up 2 earned runs and scattering just 3 hits in the complete game effort.  Justin Warne led the way offensively, going 2-3 for the Panthers.
In game two the Neosho offense came to life.  The Panthers put up 4 in the first thanks to a potent bunt came and a couple of Greyhound errors.  IN the fifth, Neosho tacked on another 7 runs highlighted by a 3-run homer by Freshman Tyler Sutherland.  The offense would add one more in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 12-0 and invoke the run rule.  Pitcher Jake Johnson was brilliant yet again, throwing his third straight conference shutout.  Sutherland went 2-4 and drove in 5 runs while Craig Johnson and Colton Crocker drove in 2 runs a piece.
Neosho takes the field again on Tuesday, traveling to Neosho, Missouri to take on Crowder College.  The Panthers begin their 2-time title defense on Saturday, beginning with the Region VI Super Regional.  The time and opponent are still to be determined.
