Box Score 2 While it wasn't the best day at the ballpark, Neosho took care of Bethany in a midweek doubleheader 11-1 and 7-2. The Panthers used timely hitting and solid pitching to take care of a scrappy Swedes team from Lindsborg, Kansas.
In the first game, Neosho jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Bethany answered to pull the score to 2-1 after pushing one run across against
Cody Hutchinson in the top of the second. The Panthers would blow the game open in the bottom of the third, plating five runs highlighted by back to back homers from captains
Colton Crocker and
Connor Goedert. Neosho would tack on in the fourth to make the score 8-1, and scored 3 more in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the run rule.
Blake Gooden drove in the games final run with a walk off single.
Cody Hutchinson got the win on the mound in the complete game effort, scattering 3 hits and striking out 8 Bethany hitters.
Tyler Sutherland led the offense by driving in 3 runs, and
Jake Golden and
Andy Young added 2 RBI's a piece.
The second game saw the Panthers score 2 in the second, 1 in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. In the top of the 6th, the Swedes finally got on the board plating 2 runs off starter
Nathan Whitcomb. Neosho answered with 2 in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 7-2, and
Tony Lane slammed the door in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Nathan Whitcomb moved his record to 5-0 on the mound and the Panther offense was led by
Justin Warne and
Tyler Sutherland who drove in two runs.
Neosho takes the field again on Thursday in conference play against Johnson County Community College. The Caveliers are 12-0 in conference play and also ranked in the top 25. The games begin at 1:00 P.M. at Hudson Field in Chanute.
