Box Score 2 Neosho came to the park needing to right the ship after a split with Labette on Thursday. They did just that on Saturday afternoon, beating the Cardinal 4-3 in game one and 10-0 in a run rule shortened effort in game two.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game by putting up one run in the second, third, and fourth inning. Labette Answered in the top of the fifth, plating three runs to tie the game 3-3 off Neosho starting pitcher
Casey Quinlan. The Panthers would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to a
Spencer Ibarra sac fly to make the score 4-3. Freshman
Nathan Whitcomb slammed the door in the top of the seventh inning to earn the win on the mound. Neosho was led offensively by
Connor Goedert and
Dylan Christie who each hit a home run, and
Tyler Sutherland who added a triple.
Game two saw one of the best pitching performances of the year by Panther starter
Shane Hummel. Hummel threw 7 shutout innings, scattering 5 hits and only needing 58 pitches to dispose of the Cardinal hitters. Offensively, Neosho scored 3 in the second, 1 in the fourth, and 5 in the sixth to take a 9-0 lead. In the bottom half of the seventh inning,
Dylan Christie launched his third home run of the day to invoke the 10-0 run rule. Christie finished 3-3 in the game with 2 home runs, and Freshmen
Brady Childs and
Spencer Ibarra added 2 RBI's apiece.
The Panthers next game is Tuesday against Bethany University. The doubleheader starts at 1:00 P.M. at Hudson Field in Chanute.
