Slow start dooms Panthers against Coffeyville

Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. – For the second consecutive game the high scoring Neosho offense was held under 20 points in the first half and a second half charge wasn't enough. Coffeyville handed the Panthers a 77-61 loss. It was the first time this season Neosho has dropped back to back games.

The Panthers never lead in the game as Coffeyville outscored the Panthers 24-6 over the first 12 minutes Monday night. The Red Ravens led by as many as 20 points in the first half as Neosho failed to find any rhythm on the offensive end and trailed by 18 at the half.

Neosho came out in the second half and quickly cut the lead to 11, but Coffeyville would go on a 27-8 run to push the lead out to 30 points.

The Panthers would end up outscoring the Red Ravens 42-40 in the second half, but the late run was too little too late. Coffeyville was held to only five second half field goals, but 45 trips to the free throw line would allow them to hold off the Panthers.

BJ Jenkins finished with a team high 19 points, and Joe Acuil tied his career high with 17 rebounds to go with 10 points in the loss.

Neosho falls to 18-6 overall and 2-4 and Jayhawk Conference play. They will look to snap their two game losing streak Saturday (Feb. 8) when they travel to Labette Community College for a 4:00pm tipoff.
