Box Score 2 Connor Goedert has had a great start to his sophomore campaign. The 3rd baseman is hitting .625 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI's through the first six games of the season. Sunday, with one swing of the bat, he salvaged a split for the Neosho baseball team. The Panthers lost the first game 2-1, but won the second 3-1.
Game one saw Iowa Central get on the board first with an RBI single by Connor Johnston. Neosho answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the 4th thanks to an RBI single from 1st baseman
Dylan Christie. The Tritons would take the lead for good in the top of the 6th inning, and hold on to win 2-1. Freshman left hander
Casey Quinlan was the tough luck loser for Neosho, throwing 5.2 innings and giving up only 1 earned run.
Game two showcased another pitchers duel. Freshman
Shane Hummel was magnificent, throwing a complete game, surrendering just one earned run and striking out 9 Iowa Central hitters. The Panther offense was held in check for most of the game, until Goedert came up in the bottom half of the 5th inning with runners on 1st and 2nd base. Goedert launched a 3-2 pitch way over the left field wall to give Neosho the lead 3-0. That was all the run support Hummel would need, as Neosho moved to 5-1 with the 3-1 victory.
The Panthers take the field again on Thursday against North Central Missouri College at Hudson Field beginning at 1:00 P.M.
