Neosho Takes Two From Iowa Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Neosho used solid pitching and timely hitting to sweep the Iowa Central Tritons 6-0 and 12-2 on Saturday at Hudson Field.  The first game of the double header saw Panther pitcher Jake Johnson throw a complete game shutout.  Johnson began his sophomore campaign by scattering only 5 hits in the victory.  Neosho got on the board offensively in the 5th inning, with Colby Smith scoring Justin Warne from 3rd with a sacrifice fly.  The offense added to the lead with 5 runs in the 6th inning, highlighted by four singles and two walks.
The second game began the same way as the first.  Iowa Central starter Alex Hayden and Panther starter Matt Slauter traded scoreless innings for the first 3.  Neosho got on the board in the 4th, plating 3 runs highlighted by a Connor Goedert 2-run home run.  Neosho answered with 5 more in the 5th and 4 in the 6th to invoke the run rule 12-2.  Slauter threw a complete game, giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 6 in getting the win.  Connor Goedert led the way offensively, going 2-2 and driving in 4 runs.  Sophomore Justin Warne added 2 RBI of his own.
Neosho takes the field again on Sunday, with another double header against Iowa Central beginning at 1:00 P.M. at Hudson Field.
