Neosho County Community College basketball (2-0) set a school record holding the Friends University Falcons junior varsity Falcons to 38 points in a 97-38 victory at the NCCC gym Tuesday night
Friends hung with the Neosho for the first few miuntes trading baskets for a 10-8 score at one point in the first half. From there, the Panthers went on a 18-4 run for a 28-12 lead with 9:56 to play in the first half. By halftime the Panthers had widened that lead to 42-17.
The second half was more of the same, a somewhat slow start in the first few minutes, followed by an 18-2 run for a 72-29 lead.
BJ Jenkins led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field and added six rebounds, four assists.
Joseph Acuil recorded his first double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 boards. Oklahoma State tranfer
Jackson Perez contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Perez was perfect from the foul line hitting 5-of-5 free throws. Tim Billingsly added 11 points, 10 in the first half.
Freddie McSwain booked six points on 3-of-4 shooting before suffering an injury.
For the game, the Panthers shot 48.8 percent from the field, but struggled from behind the three point line hitting 6-of-27. The Falcons were held to 24 percent shooting, 16.7 percent from behind the line. Neosho forced 24 turnovers while committing only eight. The Panthers outrebounded the Falcons 50 to 29.
Neosho will be back in action Thursday in the NCCC gym against Tabor JV. Tip off is 7:30 p.m.
