CHANUTE, Kan. –
Haylie Kinzey set a new school record with six goals and
Raysha Claibourn stopped a career high 14 shots as Neosho (8-4-1, 4-3-1) breezed past Dodge City (7-5-1, 3-5-1) 8-2 Friday night at the Chanute Sports Complex.
It took less than three minutes for the Panthers to get on the scoreboard as
Haylie Kinzey got free for the first of her six goals just 2:28 into the match. It was Kinzey again in the 12
th minute who scored off a cross from
Melissa Canchola as Neosho extended the lead to 2-0.
The Panthers continued to control the ball and
Morgan Rabe's third goal of the year came in the 29
th minute off a pass from
Danielle McClure to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
In the 38
th minute Kinzey notched her third hat trick of the season and followed that up less than a minute later with her fourth goal of the match, tying a career high she had reached three times before.
The Conquistadors would come out with a more aggressive offensive attack in the second half. After attempting just seven first half shots, only 2 of which were on goal, Dodge attacked Neosho keeper
Raysha Claibourn with 18 shots, 10 on goal. Claibroun was up to the challenge, posting eight saves in the second half with the only Dodge goals coming in the final 15 minutes with the game well in hand. For the night Claibourn recorded a career best 14 saves to improve her record to 5-3-1 on the year.
The Panthers got an early second half goal from
Danielle McClure who was assisted by Kinzey to push the lead out to 6-0.
Dodge finally found the back of the net in the 73
rd minute to cut the lead to 6-1 but Kinzey would break away just five minutes later for her fifth goal of the match. The goal came just seconds after she had a goal disallowed after the Dodge City keeper went after a collision. After the ensuing goal kick, Neosho secured the ball and found Kinzey streaking down the middle.
Dodge would score again in the 81
st minute, but again Kinzey answered right back with a break away and scored her record setting sixth goal of the match.
Kinzey now has 19 goals on the year which ranks 9
th in the NJCAA while her 47 points is 10
th nationally. The win lifts the Panthers into a tie for 6
th, just 2 points out of fourth place in the conference standings which would secure Neosho a home playoff game. It sets up a crucial game in earning home field advantage Sunday when they host Barton Community College (7-6-2, 4-4-1) who they are tied with in the conference standings. Kickoff for the final regular season home game is 2:00pm.
