Magical Postseason Run Comes to a Close

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Col. – The team that wasn't supposed to be in Grand Junction had already turned some heads when they got set for their third game of the JUCO World Series. The Panthers came to Grand Junction ranked 14th in the final NJCAA Poll. The only team at the World series not ranked in the top 10, the Panthers were behind 4 teams that had failed to advance out of their district tournament.

The Panthers third game of the JUCO World Series would feature a rematch from their opening game with No. 4 Cochise College. The first match up had been a classic pitcher's duel with Chance Sinclair tossing a complete game for a 2-1 win. Wednesday (May 29) afternoon would be a different story.

The Apaches, who only mustered four hits all night off Sinclair, erupted for seven runs on 4 hits in the first inning alone to effectively put the game out of reach. The Panthers would use 6 pitchers in the ball game, but they had no answer for the Cochise offense that pounded out 16 runs on 11 hits while also drawing 10 walks in the ball game.

Offensively the Panthers could only come up with four hits in the ball game. Matt Milner was the only Panther to record multiple hits while also being responsible for their only run. With the Panthers trailing 16-0 in the bottom half of the 5th inning, Milner blasted a one out homerun to keep Neosho County from being shut out.

The Panthers finish the 2013 season with a record of 36-27. The 36 wins are the 9th most in Steve Murry's 27 year coaching career.
