Box Score The Neosho County Baseball team has taken its fair share of lumps this season. With a young squad, and replacing a World Series team, there was a lot of learning to be done in the early part of the season. It appears that squad has come together, as the Panthers were victorious against Coffeyville 2-1 in the winners bracket final of the Region VI Championship Tournament. The victory puts Neosho one win away from a return trip to Grand Junction, and the Junior College World Series.
Coffeyville opened the scoring in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 1-0 lead after a sacrifice fly from designated hitter David Espinosa. Neosho answered with their first run of the game in the top of the 5th inning on a squeeze bunt by
Colton Crocker. Neosho scored the go ahead run in the 7th, off an RBI single from
Justin Warne.
Jake Johnson was up to the task of shutting down the Ravens. The freshman threw a complete game, allowing only one run and scattering just three hits.
Neosho plays for the Region VI Championship tomorrow at 7:00 P.M. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita. The Panthers will play the winner of the 4:00 P.M. game between Seward County Community College and Coffeyville Community College.
