Panthers Settle for Split with Ottawa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Panthers finished up their eight game homestand with a split against Ottawa University.  Neosho won the first game 13-9 but fell in the second game 3-1 on a warm and cloudy day at Hudson Field.

The first game saw Neosho jump out early and often against the Braves, scoring 4 in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, and 4 in the 3rd.  Ottawa got on the board in the top of the 3rd plating 3 runs, and added 5 more in the 4th to cut the lead to 11-8.  Ottawa struck again in the top of the 5th and cut the deficit further to 11-9, but the Panthers answered with 2 of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 13-9.  Brett Mitchell pitched well in relief for Neosho, and was awarded the victory for his efforts.  The Panthers were led offensively by Dylan Christie, who's bases clearing double in the 1st broke the game open, and Connor Goedert, who hit a 3 run home run in the 3rd inning.  Christie finished with 4 RBI's, and Goedert added 3 of his own.

The second game saw the Neosho offense go stagnant.  Ottawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead by scoring 1 on an error in the 2nd, and an RBI single in the 3rd.  The Panthers answered with their only run in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly by Justin Warne.  Ottawa would tack on 1 in the 5th to make the score 3-1, and that was all they would need as they held on to win.

Neosho takes the field this weekend in a huge conference tilt at Cowley County Community College.  The games are in Arkansas City and will begin on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.
