Box Score 2 Neosho took the field again on Monday, in which was their 5th and 6th games in 3 days. Neosho was able to split in conference action winning the first game 9-8 after a huge late inning rally and falling just short in the second game in a 4-2 defeat to Johnson County Community College.
The first game saw Johnson get on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning and take a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning. The 4th inning proved to be dastardly for Neosho as Johnson hammered out 7 hits, and scored 7 runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead going into the bottom of the 4th. Neosho answered with 2 of their own in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single by
Colby Smith to cut the lead to 8-2.
Jeremy Mansur held Johnson to no runs in the 5th and 6th inning and the Panthers again chipped away at the lead in the 6th. The Panthers plated three more runs highlighted by an RBI double from Freshman
Dylan Christie. Neosh trailed 8-5 going into the 7th, when
Brett Mitchell threw a scoreless top of the 7th. The Panthers walked off with the victory after scoring 4 runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a play at the plate where
Bobby Wernes scored from second on a single by
Robbe Ewing and avoided the tag of Johnson catcher Michael Yeager to complete the comeback. The offensive explosion was led by
Colby Smith who had 3 hits and an RBI, and
Robbe Ewing and
Bobby Wernes who contributed 2 RBI's of their own.
The second game again saw Johnson jump out to an early lead. The Caveliers plated 1 in the first after a triple to start the game. Neosho answered in the 4th on an RBI single by
Craig Johnson knotting the score at 1-1 after 4. Johnson again took the lead pushing across 2 in the top half of the 5th to take a 3-1 lead. The Caveliers added to their lead in the 6th on a solo home run that extended the lead to 4-1. The Panthers attempted another rally after freshman
Justin Warne doubled to start the bottom half of the 7th, but the rally fizzled out and Neosho fell 4-2.
Neosho is in action again tomorrow as they take on Ottawa at Hudson Field. Game time is 2:00 P.M.
