Panther Split Nets Series Victory

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Neosho was looking for their first series sweep of the year, but had to settle for a series victory after beating Highland 7-0 in the first game and falling 5-2 in the second game.  The second game saw a lightning delay of a little over an hour, causing the games to finish just before night fall at around 6:20 P.M.

The first game saw starter Jon Furlong pitch brilliantly, scattering 3 hits and only throwing 79 pitches in a 7 inning complete game effort.  The Panther offense came alive in the 3rd, as Neosho plated 3 runs on RBI singles by Bobby Wernes, Dalton Thompson, and Justin Warne.  Thompson would drive in one more run during the game and sophomore Robbe Ewing added 2 RBI's of his own.  The win didn't come without a hefty price though, as sophomore captain Matt Milner broke his hand stealing second in the 4th inning.

Game two saw the Scotties jump out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring 1 in the second after a costly error and 1 in the 3rd.  Highland looked to break the game open in the 3rd, and had the bases loaded with no one out.  Panther starter Jake Johnson struck out the side and got out of the jam.  Neosho responded by plating 1 in the 4th, on an RBI single by Connor Goedert.  This cut the deficit to 2-1.  After the top of the 5th, the lightning came in and cause an hour long delay.  The Scotties answered in the 7th with 3 runs to take a 5-1 lead going into the bottom half of the last inning.  Neosho didn't quit however, pushing 1 run across and loading the bases with 2 outs.  The rally stalled though, and Neosho lost 5-2.

Neosho takes the field tomorrow in conference action against Johnson County Community College at Hudson Field.  The games begin at 1:00 P.M.
