Game On For a Cure

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Panthers played their annual Game On for A Cure sponsered by Relay for Life today at Hudson Field.  There was great food and amazing festivities, including a talk from two different cancer survivors.  Andy Devitt was a former Panther who had Kidney cancer and flew in all the way from Virginia to tell his story.  The second speaker in between games was breast cancer survivor Liz Batten.  The Panthers were victorious in both games as well, beating Highland 6-2 and 9-5.

The first game saw Neosho starter Chance Sinclair give up a run in the 1st inning on a triple to lead off the game and a sac fly from Scottie Andrew Lane.  The Panther offense was solid from the beginning, scoring 2 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, and 1 in the 5th.  Sinclair gave up 1 in the 6th, but finished Highland in the 7th for a complete game victory.  Sinclair  gave up 7 hits and struck out 6 for Neosho in the triumph.  Neosho was led offensively by Matt Milner, who had a huge day, going 2 for 3 in the first game and driving in a pair of runs.  Bobby Wernes and Robbe Ewing also turned in 2 for 3 performances for the Panthers.

Game 2 began much of the same as the Scotties jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  Matt Milner hit a home run in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game at 1, and the Panthers were able to scrape across another run to take a 2-1 lead.  Neosh led 3-2 heading into the 4th, when freshman Cody Hutchinson found himself in a jam.  Highland got 3 runs in the inning and chased Hutchinson, who was replaced in the game by sophomore Jeff Boyd. With Highland leading 5-3 in the bottom of the 4th, Milner again came up clutch with a 2 run homer to tie the game 5-5.  Dalton Thompson drew a bases loaded walk later in the 4th to give Neosho the lead again 6-5.  From there, the Panthers never looked back, scoring 3 more in the 6th on a double squeeze and an error that eventually led to 3 runs, and gave the Panthers a 9-5 lead.  Dylan Christie closed the game in the 7th, and Neosho won 9-5.  Matt Milner led Neosho offensively going 3-4 and driving in 3 runs.  Dalton Thompson drove in 3 runs of his own to help the offense.

Neosho takes the field again tomorrow in conference action against Highland in the annual Multi-Generational day at Hudson Field.  The games start at 1:00 P.M.
