Box Score 2 Neosho County finished up their conference season with a split. The Panthers lost the first game 3-2 in heartbreaking fashion and won the second game 8-3. Neosho finished as the #6 seed in the East side of the Jayhawk conference and will be traveling to Dodge City this upcoming weekend.
Neosho jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first game by plating both runs in the top of the 3rd inning. A
Connor Goedert single drove in a run and a
Colby Smith two out double scored the second run. Coffeyville answered with their first run of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 7th, after a one out walk put a runner on first, Raven 1st baseman Chase Radar hit a walk off 2-run home run to end the game 3-2.
Jake Johnson took the loss on the mound for the Panthers. Neosho was led offensively by
Colby Smith who had 2 hits, and
Justin Warne who added 2 hits of his own.
The second game again saw Neosho jump on the board early. In the top of the 1st inning, with
Connor Goedert on 3rd base,
Jake O'Brien belted a 2-run homer to give the Panthers the lead 2-0. Neosho tacked on 1 in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th, 1 in the 5th, and 1 in the 6th to make the score 8-1. In the bottom of the 7th, Panther starter
Dylan Christie wiggled his way out of a bases loaded jam to secure the victory 8-3. Neosho was led offensively by
Jake O'Brien who hit a home run and had 2 RBI's,
Robbe Ewing who hit a home run and had 2 RBI's, and
Justin Warne who hit a home run and had 3 RBI's.
Neosho takes the field again in the Regional Playoffs on Saturday at Dodge City Community College. The games will begin at 2:00 P.M. in a best out of 3 series.
