Box Score 2 Neosho started their final conference weekend before the playoffs at Coffeyville Community College. The Panthers were able to salvage a split, winning the first game 3-2 and losing a heartbreaker in the second game 7-6 in extra innings.
Neosho jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning of the first game, thanks to an RBI single off the bat of
Justin Warne. The score would stay that way until the bottom of the 6th when the Ravens pushed one run across to knot the score at 1-1. Neosho answered with two runs in the 7th.
Colby Smith got on with a one out single and Freshman
Bobby Wernes drove him home with an RBI double. He would later score on a
Craig Johnson single to make the score 3-1. That was all Panther starter
Chance Sinclair would need. Sinclair scattered six hits and gave up two runs in the complete game victory.
Coffeyville struck first in the 2nd game, plating 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. Neosho answered with 4 of their own in the top of the 4th highlighted by a perfectly executed double squeeze bunt play that scored 2 runs. Neosho answered again with runs in the 4th and the 5th and took a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. The Ravens pushed one across in the 5th, and 1 in the 6th to knot the game at 6 a piece going into the 7th inning. The score would remain 6-6 until a walk off triple by Coffeyville first baseman Chase Radar ended the game with the Ravens victorious 7-6.
Jeff Boyd was the tough luck loser, surrendering 1 run in 3.1 innings pitched. The panthers were led offensively by
Dalton Thompson who had 2 RBI's and
Bobby Wernes who went a perfect 4-4 in the game.
Neosho takes the field again tomorrow at Coffeyville with the final conference games of the season. The games begin at 1:00 P.M.
