Box Score 2 Neosho was swept in the first half of their conference series today at Hudson Field. The Panthers lost the first game 10-2 and the second game 9-7.
There weren't very many bright spots for Neosho in the first game, as Independence jumped on the Panthers early with 5 in the second inning. The Pirates tacked on 1 in the fifth, 2 in the 6th, and 2 in the 7th to cruise to a 10-2 victory. Freshman
Jeremy Mansur took the loss on the mound for Neosho. Sophomore
Matt Milner led the Panthers with 2 hits including a double and
Dylan Christie and
Bobby Wernes each drove in a run.
The second game saw Independence jump out to an early lead again. The Pirates scored 3 in the first to take an early lead, then added 5 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to account for all 9 of their runs.
Jake Johnson took the loss for the Panthers. The Panthers were held in check for most of the game until the bats erupted for a 5 run 7th inning.
Dylan Christie led the way in the 7th with a big 2 run home run that brought the game to 9-7.
Craig Johnson singled and got all the way to third, but that ended the Panther rally just short as Independence held on for a 9-7 victory.
The Panthers take the field again tomorrow at Hudson Field for a double header against Independence starting at 1:00 P.M.
