Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Neosho County baseball team had hopes of completing a perfect opening conference series today, but the Fort Scott Greyhounds had other plans. The Greyhounds beat the Panthers 9-3 in the first game and 9-8 in the second game of an offensively prosperous day at Hudson Field.
Fort Scott struck first in the top of the 2nd inning of the first game, where they scored three runs off Panther starter
Cody Hutchinson. Hutchinson wasn't able to get in a rhythm all day, and was tagged with the loss on the hill for Neosho. The Panthers were led offensively by
Matt Milner and
Colton Crocker. They both were responsible for one hit and one RBI a piece. Greyhound reliever Nick Kevlin threw 4 shutout innings to end the game and finalize the victory for Fort Scott.
Game two saw Panther starter
Josh Merrill cruise through the first 4 innings, giving up one run while the offense built up a 6-1 lead. The Panthers scored 4 in the 4th thanks to a clutch 2 out single by
Matt Milner that plated 2 runs. In the top half of the 5th, the Greyhounds scored 5 runs all with two outs on 6 straight hits. Neosho rallied with two in the 6th thanks to a 2 RBI single by
Robbe Ewing to make the score 9-8 Fort Scott. The Panthers got a man on first in the 7th, but were unable to capitalize as the game ended 9-8.
Neosho takes the field again this weekend in conference action against the Independence Pirates with a double header starting at 1:00 P.M on Saturday.
