Box Score 2 With the wind howling up to 25 miles per hour and the temperature never reaching 40, the Panthers began their conference schedule in a double header against the Fort Scott Greyhounds. Neosh was able to sweep the first day of the four game series, winning both games by a score of 4-1.
Game one starter
Chance Sinclair kept the Greyhounds off balance all day, allowing only one run and striking out 9 Fort Scott hitters. The lone run came across in the first inning, and Sinclair settled down to throw six scoreless frames to end the game. The Panther offensive attack was led by freshman
Craig Johnson, who had 2 hits and 3 RBI. His 2 run double in the 6th gave Neosho a 4-1 lead, and Sinclair retired the Greyhounds in the top of the 7th to get the win.
Game two was highlighted by a masterful pitching effort from
Jon Furlong. Furlong allowed one run on just 2 hits. He struck out 4 and walked only one hitter. Furlong was able to keep hitters off balance with his devastating change-up. Neosho was led offensively by
Dalton Thompson,
Colton Crocker and
Connor Goedert. Thompson had 2 doubles and finished with 1 RBI while Goedert's two hit day saw him drive in 2 runs of his own. Crocker was 3-3 in the second game, with 2 runs scored and an RBI to his credit.
The Panthers take the field tomorrow for the second double header in the series against Fort Scott. The game will start at 1:00 PM and will be at beautiful Hudson Field in Chanute.
