Neosho Splits Conference Double Header With Johnson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The weather finally cooperated for the Panthers.  After weeks of cold temperatures and snowstorms, Neosho split with Johnson County as temperatures soared into the upper 60's.  The Panthers won the first game of the double header 1-0, and lost a heartbreaker in game two 4-3.

Neosho jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first game by pushing a run across on an error by the Cavaliers.  That proved to be the difference, as the Panther pitching staff caused fits for the Johnson County hitters.  Starter Chance Sinclair was strong until the 4th.  Jeff Boyd came in and got out of the 4th and threw a scoreless 5th.  Freshman Dylan Christie came into the game and pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning to pick up the win.  The Panthers managed only 3 hits all game against tough luck loser Matt Blackham, but 1 run was all Neosho needed to pick up the victory.

Johnson took an early lead in game 2 as they scored 1 off starter Cody Hutchinson after a leadoff triple and an error.  Neosho answered with a run of their own after a ground out by Colton Crocker plated Matt Milner.  Neosho struck again in the 4th off another single by Crocker scored Dalton Thompson.  Hutchinson surrendered another run in the 6th to tie the game 2-2, but pitched brilliantly in 6 strong innings.  Brett Mitchell came into the game in the 7th, and gave up 2 runs to give the Cavaliers a 4-2 lead.  Neosho threatened in the bottom of the 7th as Colton Crocker was hit by a pitch, and Connor Goedert doubled to bring him home and make the score 4-3.  Goedert moved to 3rd on a wild pitch and the tying run was 90 feet away with nobody out.  The Panther rally fell short however as Neosho was unable to drive home Goedert to tie the game 4-4.

Neosho takes the field again tomorrow against Johnson County starting at 1:00 P.M.  The game will be played at Hudson Field, and the Panthers will be celebrating Multi-Generational Day as well as 40 years of baseball with festivities at the game.
