Box Score 2 Spring has finally arrived, at least it felt like it for Neosho's game at Baker on Thursday. As temperatures soared into the 70's, the Panthers took two from Baker. Neosho won the first game 6-2 and the second game 10-1 to sweep the day and bring their season record to 8-6.
Freshman starting pitcher
Jeremy Mansur threw a complete game no-hitter, but some shaky defense allowed Baker to score two runs in the contest. Baker took the lead in the 1st on an error and passed ball, but Neosho answered with 4 in the second, The rally was led by
Dalton Thompson and
Justin Warne, each who had one RBI in the second inning. The Panthers tacked on 1 in 4th and 1 in the 6th, and Mansur retired the Wildcats in order in the 7th to complete the no hitter.
Game two saw starting pitcher
Josh Merrill dominate for 5 strong innings. Merrill, who's only trouble inning came in the third inning when he gave up back to back hits and then walked a hitter to load the bases with no outs. He promptly struck out the next two hitters and got a ground out to third to get out of the inning. The Panthers were led offensively by
Robbe Ewing who had 3 RBI and
Bobby Wernes who had 2 RBI. The Panthers opened things up in a 6 run 4th inning and a 3 run 5th inning.
Brett Mitchell finished Baker off with a clean 7th to preserve the victory.
The Panthers take the field again on the road at Kansas City Kansas Community College in conference action starting on Saturday. The games will be played starting at 1:00 P.M.
