Coach Murry Wins 800th Game as Panthers Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Coach Steve Murry has just started his 27th year as the head coach at Neosho.  Today, he won his 800th game as coach.  Murry began his head coaching career at Neosho in 1986, and in that span has built beautiful Hudson Field, taken two teams to the Junior College World Series, and had almost a 100% graduation rate from his athletes.  His 800th win came in the form of a game one victory 7-6, while the Panthers lost the second game 12-3.

Neosho had a rough start to the day as Longview jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the first game.  Cody Hutchinson had a rough first, but settled down to limit the Lakers for the rest of his outing.  Freshman Tanner Rosenthal came in to relieve Hutchinson, and threw three innings without giving up an earned run.  The Panther offensive attack was led by Captain Matt Milner, who drove in two runs.  Jake Johnson came into the game in the 7th inning and slammed the door in his first collegiate appearance to get the save for the Panthers.

Game two had few bright spots, as the Panthers fell behind 4-0 in the second inning following a costly error on a fly ball miscommunication.  Starter Josh Merrill struggled with command, but the Panthers rallied to a 5-3 deficit after the third inning.  Neosho was limited to 6 hits, and couldn't rally after a big 6 run 5th inning by Longview.

The Panthers head out on the road for the first time in the 2013 season on Wednesday at Ottawa, with the games starting at 1 P.M.
