The Neosho County Panthers faced Hutchinson Community College for the second day in row; however a win on Monday would secure a Regional Title and a berth in the Central District Championship next weekend.
The Panthers would put pressure on Hutchinson right away as
David Bote drew a walk to lead off the home half.
Adam Giacalone followed that up with a perfect drag bunt to put runners at first and second with no outs. The Panthers would be unable to capitalize however as they would be stranded to end the inning.
The Blue Dragons would strike first in the third as they drew a lead off walk to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt would move him to second, and he would advance to third on a deep fly ball to left. The aggressive base running would prove to be a factor as the next batter scored him on an infield single off the foot of Neosho pitcher
Chance Sinclair.
The Blue Dragon lead would be short lived however as the Panthers would answer right back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the third.
David Bote led the inning off with a single and would score on
Adam Giacalone's double down the right field line.
The Panthers would finally grab the lead in the bottom of the fourth when
Connor Kohlscheen singled to start the inning. He would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt. The Panthers would capitalize on two Blue Dragons miscues as a pair of wild pitches allowed Kohlscheen to score what would prove to be the winning run.
Chance Sinclair would work into the eighth inning before handing the ball off to
Daniel Peterson with runners at first and second and one out. Peterson's first pitch would be weakly hit to shallow centerfield where Nick Feigner,
David Bote, and
Kas Sanders converged. As the ball touched Feigners glove, he and Bote would collide jarring the ball lose just falling out of Sanders reach. Sanders would grab the ball and fire it to first baseman
Adam Giacalone covering second for the force out before throwing to
Garrett Schaede to tag the runner out and complete the unusual inning ending double play.
Sinclair's would finish the day going 7.1 innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven to earn his team leading eighth win of the year.
Max Ising came on for the third day in a row to throw the ninth inning and would strike out the side in order to pick up his eighth save of the season.
The win secures a Regional Championship for the Panthers for the second year in a row and moves their overall record to 45-14. They will now head to Wichita next weekend for the Central District Championship which starts Saturday May 12. They will face off against Coffeyville Community College with game time to be announced later this week.
