David Bote wasted no time getting the Panther offense started in the bottom of the first inning. The freshman shortstop led the inning off with a single before stealing second. Bote would then advance to third on a groundout by
Garrett Schaede. He would then score on
Robbe Ewing's infield single to put the Panther's on top 1-0.
That would be all the scoring that Neosho starting pitcher
Daniel Peterson would need. Peterson tossed 7.2 innings of work, scattering seven hits while walking one and striking out one. Coffeyville would put runners on base in six of the eight innings he pitched in, however Peterson would only allow one man to reach third base.
After scoring a run in the first, the Panthers could only muster two hits the rest of the ball game. They would threaten in the sixth after
Garrett Schaede led off the inning with a double to deep left field. A sacrifice bunt moved Schaede to third, but the Panthers were unable to add the insurance run.
Peterson would work into the eighth inning before surrendering a two out double. The Panthers would then summon closer
Max Ising to try and end the threat. Ising coaxed a groundout to short to end the inning. After a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth, Ising would return to try and finish up his school record 10
th save of the year while sending the Panthers to their second World Series in school history. Ising would get a pair of groundouts to start the inning before striking out a man to end the game.
The win sends the Panthers to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado where they will play their first game May 26
th at 12:00pm Mountain Time when they face off against the Eastern District Champion. The Panthers are now 48-14 on the year, and have won their last 12 games. It is the second 12 game winning streak of the year.
