Panthers Cruise Past Cowley to Advance to Central District Championship

After taking 13 innings to sneak past Coffeyville in the first game of the Central District Championship, the Panthers were looking to jump out to an early lead against Cowley. Things would not work that way however as they were held scoreless for the first three innings

The Panthers finally took the lead in the fourth inning when Kas Sanders drew a bases loaded walk to plate the first run of the game. They added a pair of runs in the fifth inning as well to take a 3-0 lead. David Bote led the inning off with a single and later scored on Adam Giacalone's third triple of the season. Robbe Ewing would score Giacalone with a sacrifice fly to finish the scoring off in the fifth.

Matt Strahm got the start on the hill for the Panthers and didn't allow a run in his first five innings of work. Cowley was able to push a run across in the sixth with back to back two out hits capped by Mike Parker's double just out of the reach of a diving Jordan Miller.

Cowley would again put a rally together in the seventh, and once again the damage would come with two outs. Strahm would induce a pair of fly outs to start the inning before allowing three singles in a row to plate a run and cut the Panther lead to one at 3-2.

The Panthers would answer right back with three runs. Tyler Palmer would drive in the first two runs with a single before Connor Kohlscheen finished the inning with a double into the right field corner to score a run.

Strahm would work a 1-2-3 eighth inning to keep the momentum in the Panthers favor and they would capitalize in the bottom half. Jordan Miller got the inning started with a bunt single, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the picher. David Bote picked up his fifth hit of the game, a double to left center, to plate Miller. After a walk to Adam Giacalone, Garrett Schaede would loft a sacrifice fly to deep left to score Bote. Robbe Ewing would follow that up with a triple down the left field line scoring Giacalone. Tyler Plamer would then single to score Ewing and end the game due to the run rule.

Matt Strahm tossed his tenth complete game of the season to earn eighth of the season, scattering eight hits over 8.0 innings of work while not allowing a walk. Strahm also recorded 10 strikeouts to push his school record to 124 on the season.

The win gives the Panthers a school record 47 for the season and advances them to the Central District Championship on Monday where they will face Coffeyville Community College at 4:00pm. The Red Ravens knocked off Cowley in the second game of the day 13-5 to advance to the championship.
