The Johnson County Cavaliers took a four game series from the Neosho County Panthers with four 1-run victories.
Saturday the Panthers would jump out to an early lead on the Cavalier starting pitcher when
Tyler Palmer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. That would be all the offense they would muster however as they were held to two hits for the game.
Matt Strahm allowed single runs in the first and second, but would take the loss surrendering five hits while walking two and striking out five on the day.
For the second time in as many games, the Panthers would jump out to an early 1-0 lead but they would not be able to hold on to it. The Cavaliers answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first as they benefitted from a pair of Panther errors to help push their runs across.
Neosho County would tie the game back up in the second after
Garrett Schaede led the inning off with a double and would later score on Jordan Millers sacrifice fly.
The Panthers would finally regain the lead in the fourth when the Cavalier second baseman misplayed a fly ball allowing
Chance Sinclair to score.
Adam Giacalone, after allowing a pair of singles in the second would not allow another hit until the seventh inning when the inning started with a single. The Panthers would misplay a sacrifice bunt putting runners at second and third. An intentional walk to load the bases would be followed by a bases loaded walk to tie the game. The Cavaliers would complete the comeback with a single to score the winning run.
Daniel Peterson would take the hill in game one on Saturday looking to get the Panthers back on the right track. He would surrender a single to start the bottom of the first before a sacrifice bunt and a bloop double would provide the only run of the game.
Peterson would not allow a hit the rest of the way, but would be the hard luck loser tossing six innings walking none and striking out a season high eight.
The Panthers could only muster four hits for the game on the way to being shut out for the third time on the season.
In game two the Panthers would score first for the third time in the series after
Nick Feighner was hit by a pitch to start the third inning. A sacrifice bunt would put him at second, and he would later score on
Garrett Schaede's single.
Johnson would tie the game up in the fourth. The Cavalier designated hitter would connect for a one out double to get things going. After a groundout, a Neosho County error put runners at first and second with two outs. A single would score the Cavaliers first run of the game and tie things up at 1.
The game would remain tied into the sixth when the Panthers loaded the bases with one out.
Connor Kohlscheen lined a ball to second for an inning ending double play.
Chance Sinclair would allow a leadoff single to start the seventh inning. The Cavaliers bunted the runner into scoring position and the Panthers went to their bullpen.
Max Ising came on to try and send the game to extra innings. Ising would allow a walk to the Cavalier pinch hitter, but when ball four skipped away from
Tyler Palmer, the runner was able to come all the way from second to score the winning run.
The Panthers fall to 29-12 overall and 15-9 in Jayhawk Conference play with the losses. They will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Baker University for a double header beginning at 4:00pm.
