Daniel Peterson allowed a run in the first before settling in and holding the Red Devils off the scoreboard before they were able to push across one more run in the sixth. The sophomore righty scattered seven hits while walking none and striking out six to pick up his sixth win of the season.
Max Ising came on for the 19
th time this season and tossed a 1-2-3 seventh to nail down the victory.
The Panthers got on the board for the first time in the third inning with a pair of runs.
Adam Giacalone doubled with one out to put runners at second and third.
Garrett Schaede singled to drive in the first run of the game, and Giacalone later scored on a wild pitch to put the Panthers on top 2-1.
The Panthers would tack on three more runs in the fourth after
Nick Feighner doubled to get the inning started. He would score on
Jordan Miller's single.
David Bote would drive Miller in with a single of his own before
Adam Giacalone singled to cap the scoring for the inning.
They would add one more insurance run in the sixth when
Nick Feighner again led the inning off with a single. He would advance to third after an error as he stole second, and scored on
Kas Sanders sacrifice fly.
Allen County would jump out to an early lead once again in game two as they pushed across a run in the top of the first thanks to a Neosho County error. That would be all the scoring Neosho starter
Chance Sinclair would allow however as he went the distance allowing only five hits while walking none and striking out five to earn his team leading seventh win of the season.
The Red Devil lead would be short lived however as they Panthers answered right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
Adam Giacalone got the scoring started after
David Bote led off the inning with a walk; Giacalone blasted his 10
th homerun of the year to left field to put the Panthers on top. The Panthers would then load the bases for
Kas Sanders who singled to score
Tyler Palmer and
Garrett Schaede.
Neosho County would once again hang a four spot in the third to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
Jordan Miller singled in the first run of the inning before scoring on
David Bote's two run triple.
Adam Giacalone would drive in the final run of the inning with his 21
st double of the season.
The Panthers would tack on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the final score 10-1.
Nick Feighner doubled to drive in a run in the fifth, and
Adam Giacalone connected for his second homerun of the game in the sixth.
The Panthers finish the regular season at 42-14 and 25-11 in Jayhawk Conference play. The two wins meant that they would have to wait on the conclusion of the Coffeyville vs. Cowley series to end to determine if they would be hosting a regional or heading on the road for the first round. The Panthers needed Coffeyville to win one game for them to finish in second place.
In game one, Coffeyville would get the go ahead run in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to capitalize as they fell 3-2. In game two they would jump out to an early lead and never look back knocking off Cowley by a final score of 9-1. The loss by Cowley gives Neosho a second place finish in the Jayhawk Eastern Division.
The Panthers now be Regional hosts next weekend as they will host Hutchinson Community College and Butler College from the Jayhawk West, as well as either Highland Community College or Labette Community College from the Jayhawk East. Labette has a pair of games left to finish their regular season.
The Regional Tournament will begin Saturday May 5
th when Hutchinson plays Labette or Highland at 10:00 am. Neosho will play at 1:00pm when they take on Butler College. The losers of the first two games will then square off at 4:00pm in an elimination game. More information on the Regional Tournament can also be found on the
