Panthers Notch 40th Win With Double Header Sweep

The offense got off to a slow start in game one of the series as Allen County starting pitcher Zak Mickens didn't allow a run over the first four innings of the ballgame. The Panthers would finally get to Mickens in the fifth after Conner Kohlscheen led off the inning with a single. Jordan Miller would later score Kohlscheen with an RBI single to put the Panthers on top 1-0. They would add one more run when Kas Sanders scored as Adam Giacalone reached base on an error.

The two runs would be more than enough for Neosho starting pitcher Matt Strahm. The school's all-time leader in strikeouts and complete games would add another record to his resume as he tossed his fifth career shutout allowing only three hits in the game while striking out nine to earn the win. The nine strikeouts give Strahm 101 for his career.

The Panthers would tack on insurance runs in the sixth when Kas Sanders singled to drive in a pair of runs to extend the lead to 4-0. David Bote would finish the scoring for the game when he also drove in a pair with a single making the final score 6-0.

Game two would not start well for the Panthers as Adam Giacalone allowed two runs on 4 hits to start the ballgame. The sophomore righty who is tied for the school's all-time lead in wins would settle in after the first tossing 8.0 innings and allowing only 1 hit after the first inning.

David Bote would cut the Red Devil lead in the bottom of the first when he led the home half of the first off with a homerun, his sixth of the year.

The Panthers would tie the game up in the fifth when Rowdy Dove led the inning off with a double. After a sacrifice bunt, pinch runner Connor Kohlscheen would score the tying run on Kas Sanders sacrifice fly.

Neosho County would head to the seventh inning tied all tied up. Tyler Palmer and Connor Kohlscheen would string back to back singles together but the Panthers could not capitalize as they left the duo on base to send the game to extra innings.

Neosho Closer Max Ising would relieve Giacalone and toss a perfect eighth striking out a pair to give the Panthers another chance to score.

After two quick outs, the Panthers would get a runner on when Nick Feighner walked. A single by Kas Sanders would put runners at first and second for Jordan Miller. Miller would send the Panther fans happy when he doubled down the right field line to score the winning run.

The two wins give the Panthers 40 wins for the second season in a row. It marks the first time in school history the Panthers have reached the 40 win mark in consecutive seasons. Neosho County is now 40-14 overall and 23-11 in Jayhawk Conference play. They currently trail Cowley College by one game for second in the region. To host a regional next weekend, the Panthers need to win two games tomorrow against Allen and need help from Coffeyville who must win at least one game against Cowley. The Panthers will play their final two regular season games tomorrow at 1:00pm when they host Allen to conclude the series.
