The Neosho County Panthers swept a double header at Baker University to move to 31-12 overall on the year.
Tanner Dahl got the start on the mound for the Panthers and threw six scoreless innings to start the game but ran into trouble in the seventh. After a groundout to start the inning the Wildcats would reel off four straight hits off Dahl to chase him from the game. A double down the right field line would tie the game and send it to extra innings.
The teams would trade scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings before the Panthers finally broke through in the top of the tenth. After a leadoff single by
Kas Sanders,
Garrett Schaede would score him with an RBI single.
Adam Giacalone would tack on an insurance run with a double, and
Nick Feighner would cap off the inning with a sacrifice fly to push the Panther lead to 7-4.
Max Ising picked up the win in relief in game one tossing 2.2 innings while allowing a pair of hits and striking out four before handing the ball off to
Kenny McKee. McKee earned his first career save tossing a scoreless tenth while striking out one.
In game two
Tyler Kjellsen picked up the win tossing 5.0 innings allowing two hits while striking out six.
Dalton Cox and
Josh Merrill each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to help secure the victory.
After falling behind early, the Panthers would grind out six runs on seven hits for the win. The big inning came in the fifth when they plated four runs on three hits. The biggest play of the inning was a perfectly executed double squeeze by
Robbe Ewing. They would score the final run of the inning on a double steal to score
Matt Milner.
The Panthers are now 31-12 on the year and 15-9 in Jayhawk Conference play. They will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Highland Community College for a four game set. First pitch Saturday and Sunday is 1:00pm. Highland is currently 20-18 overall and 10-14 in the conference.
