With the team and umpires wearing pink to support cancer awareness, the Neosho County Panthers picked up a pair of wins over Labette Community College 4-1 and 8-2.
“Game On For A Cure: was sponsored by the Neosho County Relay For Life, and numerous cancer survivors were on hand to take part in the day's festivities. It was only fitting that the plate umpire for game one, Jon Browar, is a three-year cancer survivor.
When the game got started the Panther's got on the board first thanks to Kas Sander's RBI roundout in the second inning.
They would tack on two more runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from
Nick Feighner as the relay throw from the outfield sailed into the dugout allowing
David Bote to trot home.
The Cardinal's would get a run back in the fifth with a pair of singles, but that is as close as they would get.
A two out single by
Kas Sanders would set the table, and
Chance Sinclair's triple would score Sanders one pitch later.
Matt Strahm picked up his fourth win of the season pitching 7.0 innings allowing five hits and one run while striking out four.
In game two Labette would jump out to an early 1-0 lead with a double steal in the first inning.
The Panther's would even the game up with a run of their own on
Robbe Ewing's two out RBI single.
They would finally take the lead in the third when
Nick Feighner singled to score
Jordan Miller.
The Panthers would extend the lead in the fourth when the exploded for five runs on 6 hits. After a leadoff single,
Kas Sanders connected for his second homerun of the year. After a walk and a double,
Adam Giacalone would collect a double of his own to score a pair of runs.
David Bote would close the scoring out for the Panthers with a single to score Giacalone and put Neosho County on top 8-1.
Labette would get run back in the sixth behind three singles, but they couldn't get any closer as
Josh Merrill came on to toss a scoreless seventh inning to close out the win.
Adam Giacalone notched his fifth win of the season tossing 6.0 innings while scattering seven hits while walking none and striking out eight.
The wins move Neosho County to 27-8 overall and 13-5 in Jayhawk Conference play. The teams will be back in action Sunday at 1:00 pm when they play the final two games of the series.
