Offense Explodes In Game Two to Salvage Split

Robbe Ewing blasts a three run homerun

Game 1
Game 2

After dropping the series opener 2-0, the Panther offense battled back to score 10 runs on the way to a 10-2 win over Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Matt Strahm was the tough luck loser in game one as the lefty scattered seven hits over his 7.0 innings of work while striking out 11.

Neosho County had chances to score runs early, but could not capitalize on their opportunities. Failed sacrifice bunts attempts in the first two innings cost the Panthers dearly. They would leave the bases loaded in the second and would not mount a serious threat after that as KCK starting pitcher Zack Butler went the distance on the mound.

Adam Giacalone would take the mound in game two looking guide the Panthers to a split on the day. KCK would get a run in the top of the first, but Giacalone would settle in and hold the Blue Devils scoreless over the next five innings.

After being shutout in game one, the Panthers finally pushed a run across in the second when Garrett Schaede connected for his third homerun of the season.

The offense would explode for seven runs in the third innings. Nick Feighner would get things started when he led the inning off with his third homerun of the season. After a single Adam Giacalone would drive in a run with his second triple of the year. Tyler Palmer would score Giacalone with a single. After two more singles Robbe Ewing would blast a three run homerun, his second of the year, to put the Panthers up 8-1.

Both teams would go scoreless for the next two innings before Rowdy Dove's double plated two runs for the Panthers.

The Blue Devils would push a single run across in the top of the seventh, but it would not be enough. Giacalone picked up the win on the mound tossing 7.0 innings allowing only two runs while scattering 11 hits.

The split moves the Panthers to 23-8 overall and 9-5 in Jayhawk Conference play. The teams will close the series out Monday at 1:00pm.
