Bases loaded, no outs, tie game, bottom of the seventh. That was the situation sophomore closer
Max Ising found himself in Sunday as the Panthers tried to complete the sweep of Independence Community College Sunday. Ising rose to the occasion striking out the next two batters before coaxing a groundout to end the inning and send the game to extra innings.
After the Panthers failed to score in the top of the eighth Ising, who had not threw more than an inning in any of his previous 31 appearances would trot back out for the eighth. After a leadoff single, he would strike out the next two batters and end the inning with a comebacker to give the Panthers another chance to score.
Kas Sanders would give the Panthers the lead when he led off the ninth with his first homerun of the season. That would be all the offense that Panthers would muster however giving Ising a one run lead to preserve.
Ising would close the game out in style as he struck out the side to earn his second win of the season.
Offensively the Panthers did their damage with the long ball although not always in a traditional fashion.
Rowdy Dove got the Panther's on the board first when he lead off the third with a deep drive to center. As the centerfielder dove to try and make a play on the ball he crashed into the wall and Dove circled the bases for the second inside the park homerun of the weekend for the Panthers. Dove would add another RBI with his single in the fifth inning.
In game one the Panthers would jump out to an early lead and hold on for the 6-3 victory.
Daniel Peterson tossed his second complete game in a row allowing six hits and three runs, only one of which was earned, while striking out five to earn his third win of the season.
The Panthers had a balanced attack offensively as eight different players recorded a hit.
Nick Feighner led the way going 2-4 with a homerun, two RBI's and two runs scored.
The wins move the Panthers to 22-7 overall and 8-4 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Panthers will be back in action Saturday when they return home to host Kansas City Kansas Community College. Game time is set for 1pm. KCK is currently tied for first in the conference at 10-2 while Neosho County is two games back in third.
