Panthers Sink Pirates With Double Header Sweep

The Neosho County Panthers extended their conference win streak to 5 games with a pair of wins over Independence Saturday.
 
The offense, which had been sluggish lately, broke in a big way scoring 24 runs on the day. In game one the Panthers would collect a season high 14 hits en route to a 11-2 victory. The Panthers would win game two 13-8 setting a new season high for runs scored in the contest.
 
In game one Garrett Schaede would drive in three runs while going a perfect 4-4 at the plate. Jordan Miller, David Bote, Adam Giacalone, and Tyler Palmer would each collect a pair of hits. Bote would collect a double as well as an inside the park homerun while driving in two runs while Tyler Palmer scored three runs while connecting for his third homerun of the season. The story of the game however would be Giacalone however as the sophomore slugger drove in a pair of runs to push his career total to 128 which is a new school record.
 
Matt Strahm got the win on the mound for the Panthers tossing 7.0 innings allowing four hits and thee walks while striking out 10. His only blemish came in the seventh inning when, following a walk he allowed a homerun to spoil the shutout.
 
After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in game two, the Panthers would find themselves down 6-3 after four innings.
 
Giacalone would put the Panthers back on top with his three run homerun in the top of the fifth, however the Pirates would answer right back with a pair of runs of their own to regain the lead.
 
The Panthers would keep the pressure on however as they would score four more runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good. Giacalone once again provided the big blast when his bases loaded single scored two.
 
The Panthers would tack on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on a Pirate error to extend lead to 13-8.
 
Tanner Dahl picked up the win in relief, while Josh Merrill and Max Ising each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the victory.
 
Bote and Giacalone combined to go 5-9 at the plate with 8 RBI's and four runs scored. Jordan Miller would go 2-2 at the plate with three walks and four runs scored while Tyler Palmer would blast his second homerun of the day in the game.
 
The wins move the Panthers to 20-7 overall and 6-4 in Jayhawk Conference play. The teams will be back in action at 1pm Sunday when the square off in the final two games of the series.
