Panthers Take Series With Double Header Sweep

Game 1
Game 2

On Saturday Fort Scott and Neosho were forced to wait two hours to get the series started due to wet field conditions, so it was only fitting that they had to wait an extra 24 hours to finish what they started. Rains Saturday night and Sunday forced the teams to push the games back to Monday.

Daniel Peterson got the start on the mound for the Panthers and threw one of his best games as a Panther. The sophomore righty tossed 7.0 innings allowing only one run while scattering nine hits and striking out a season high nine Greyhound batters.

The Panther offense, which struggled to score runs on Saturday, got Peterson a lead in the fourth inning. Nick Feighner and Jordan Miller got the inning started with back to back doubles. After a wild pitch, David Bote's groundout would score another run for the Panthers. Adam Giacalone would get things started again for the Panthers with another double and would score on Tyler Palmers single.

That would be all the offense the Panthers would muster in the game. The three runs would prove to be more than enough for Peterson as he earned his second complete game win of the season.

After winning game one, the Panthers next goal was to get back to .500 in Jayhawk Conference play.

The offense would break out in a big way in the series finale. They would get things going in the third inning thanks to some small ball. After getting the leadoff man on base, Nick Feighner reached base on a bunt single. Jordan Miller would follow up with a bunt single of his own to load the bases.

David Bote would single to score the first run of the inning and bring up Adam Giacalone. The sophomore, known for his ability to drive in runs, caught the Greyhound defense off balance as he laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to drive in a pair of runs. A single by Tyler Palmer would put runners on the corners, and Robbe Ewing's sacrifice fly would score another run for the Panthers.

The Panther offense would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning when Tyler Palmer blasted his second homerun of the season to score Giacalone.

In the seventh, Neosho County continued to extend the lead with three more runs capped by Garret Schaede's RBI single.

It would prove to be more than enough offense for Chance Sinclair who would toss the third complete game in a row for the Panther pitching staff. Sinclair scattered six hits while striking out four on his way to his first shutout as a Panther.

The wins move the Panthers to 18-5 overall and 4-4 in Jayhawk Conference play. They will be back in action Wednesday when they play Seminole State College. The doubleheader will be played at Jenks High School starting at 1:00pm.
