Strong pitching and timely hitting was the recipe for a double header sweep of Des Moines Area Community College. The wins pushes Neosho County's win streak to 10 games to start the season.
The Panther's would jump out to an early 1-0 nothing lead as
Adam Giacalone (Shawnee, KS) scored
David Bote (Thornton, CO) with a two out single in the bottom of the first. The lead would be short lived however as DMACC would answer right back with a pair of runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead.
After a rocky start to the game
Matt Strahm (West Fargo, ND) would settle in and blank the Bears the rest of the way to pick up his second complete game win of the season. Strahm scattered 9 hits while walking one and striking out 10. It would mark the second time in as many games that Strahm has reached double digits in strikeouts.
The Panthers would score single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to take the lead.
David Bote drove in the tying run with two outs in the sixth inning. After Bote stole second,
Adam Giacalone would line a ball off the pitcher allowing the second baseman to nab Giacalone at first to end the inning.
In the sixth the Panthers would finally regain the lead on a
Chance Sinclair (Spring Hill, KS) two out single to score
Tyler Palmer (El Reno, OK). The single run would be all Strahm would need as he retired the side in order to close out the win.
Giacalone would take to the mound for game two and would pick up the win tossing 6.0 innings allowing six hits and a walk while striking out 10.
Max Ising (Lee's Summit, MO) came on to close out the win tossing a scoreless seventh to secure the victory.
The Panthers staked Giacalone an early 3-1 lead thanks to a 3 run double off the bat of freshman
Rowdy Dove (Pryor, OK). Dove would double again in the fourth to drive in a run and extend the lead to 4-1. For the day Dove was 2-3 with two RBI's and two doubles.
The wins move Neosho County to 10-0 while DMACC falls to 6-3. The Panthers will look to complete the sweep Sunday with first pitch of the double header coming at 1:00pm.
