Steve Murry Picks Up Win #750 As Panthers Sweep Season Opener

The Neosho County Panthers opened the 2012 season with a double header sweep of the Ottawa Braves on Wednesday afternoon. While the Panthers picked up a pair of wins on the day, the two victories gave Neosho County Head Coach Steve Murry 750 wins for his career.
 
Freshman Tanner Dahl (West Fargo, ND)  got the opening day start for the Panthers and got his career of to an impressive start. Dahl needed only 75 pitches to pitch a complete game allowing only two runs while striking out 8 and walking none.
 
The middle of the Panthers batting order was the driving force behind the win as the 3-4-5 hitters in the lineup combined to go 7-10 with 8 RBI's and 5 runs scored.
 
The 2011 Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year and returning All-American Adam Giacalone (Shawnee, KS)picked right up where he left off last season driving in five runs in the season opener. For the game Giacalone was 3-3 with two doubles, a homerun, and two runs scored to go with his five RBIs.
 
Freshman shortstop David Bote (Thornton, CO)also got his Panther career off to a great start going 3-4 at the plate with two runs driven in while scoring three runs and stealing a pair of bases.
 
In game two of the double header the Panthers would capitalize on the Braves miscues on their way to an 11-1 run rule victory.
 
The big inning for the Panthers would come in the second when they would plate seven runs without the benefit of a hit. After two quick outs, Neosho County would draw six walks, a hit batter before two more Panthers reached base on errors to plate seven runs.
 
Eight different Panthers would score a run in the contest led by Freshman Nick Feighner (Shawnee, KS)who went 2-3 at the plate with a double while driving in two as well as scoring a pair of runs.
 
Sophomore Tyler Kjellsen (Broken Arrow, OK)got the start on the mound for the Panthers and went the distance allowing one run on two hits while striking out five to pick up the win.
 
The win makes the Panthers 2-0 on the season while Ottawa falls to 0-2 on the year. Neosho County will be back in action this weekend when the host the Lions of Brown Mackie on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm both days.
