Coaching Career:

Steve Murry assumed the Head Coaching job at Neosho County in June of 1986. He succeeded Carl Robb and became only the second coach in Neosho Baseball history. During his 40 year stint, the Panthers have won 1231 games,Jayhawk Conference Championships in 1994, 2003, 2006 and 2016 and Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division Sub-Regional Championships in 1999, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, & 2016. The Panthers set a school record with 51 wins in 2016.The Panthers also won Region VI Champions in 2003, 2012, and 2013, qualifying for the World Series all three years. They were also Regional Runner-up in 1999, 2001, and 2017.
The Panthers also finished third in 2006 & 2016.

As a player, Murry had many accomplishments that included:

* Three time All-Conference

 
As a coach, his accomplishments include:

 
* Built beautiful Hudson Field on campus
* A near 100% graduation rate from his players
* Selected as "Instructor of the Year" at NCCC for the 1999-2000 school year.
* 2009 recipient of NISOD Award of Excellence for Faculty
* Named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year in 2002,2005, & 2016
* Region VI Champions in 2003, 2012 & 2013
* World Series Qualifier in 2003, 2012 & 2013
* Central District "Coach of the Year" in 2003, 2012 & 2013
* Won his 500th game on Apr. 13, 2004 vs. KCK
* Won his 750th game on February 15, 2012 vs. Ottawa University                      
* Won his 1000th game against Labette on April 27, 2017
* 2013 Junior College World Series "Homa Thomas" Sportsmanship Award Recipient
* 59 Players drafted or signed to play professional baseball
* 3 time winner of Jayhawk Coach of the Year

*  2015 Chanute Chamber of Commerce "Educator of the Year"
* 19-20 season canceled due to Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic
* Earned 1200th win in the 2024 season

Besides his coaching duties, Murry also serves as a Physical Education instructor. Murry and his lovely wife Kim of over 40 years are the proud parents of Zack who played in the Colorado Rockies organization and is married to his grade school sweetheart, the former Jory Wire. They are the proud parents of the Coach's first granddaughter Sutton, and grandsons, Mitt and Quinn. Murry also has one daughter, Mallori. Mallori graduated from Neosho in 2009, Pittsburg State University in 2012, and WSU Physician Assistant Program in 2017. Mallori and her husband Brandon, are the proud parents of Berkley, Elise, and Gunner.
